So, you're looking to get in shape, maybe lose some weight and feel better. There is no shortage of options but they're really all the same. On one side you've got big box gyms charging under $20 a month to rent "access" to their equipment. On the other, high end facilities rich with amenities, a modern day social club, but training is extra.

Then you've got crowded bootcamps and boutique gyms that revolve around a bike, rowing machine, etc... popping up all over because you can charge a little more and pack in 20-40 people and make a nice chunk of change.

From our perspective its' nothing new. Consider pre pandemic, the health club industry had a record year raking in $35 billion dollars! There were a record number of clubs and yet we hit another record year of obesity rates. Clearly this model isn't working, well for them it is...but for the people it's a big NO!

If that's the case, what's different about Renu?

Most gyms marketing materials show super fit people shredding it, sweating, jumping, sprinting... "crushing it."  That looks inspirational, but when you look at the state of the world and particularly America it's a very small part of the population.


We keep hearing fitness is about health, that it's about being in it for the long term, like lifetime long-term. With 70% of the population overweight or obese the current approach isn't working. The messaging isn't aligning with what people experience at gyms. At Renu we took an honest look at this demographic that most needed a health intervention.

What we witnessed was a large population with chronic poor posture, long historical sedentariness, adults with old sports injuries, aches and pains that for the vast majority they would get "crushed" and pay the price in injuries and yet another failed attempt to take charge of their health if they continued with those workouts. They are not at fault, it’s an industry that keeps on focusing on unrealistic aesthetics, super intense workouts out the gate and ignoring all the internal health benefits you can't see in a mirror right away.

Real people have different goals 

If we think about it, real people like those pictured contrasted with the super fit, are who we need to reach to make an impact. It's a very small percentage who, lets be honest "like" exercise. (at least until they've experienced what we do)

Most have stressful jobs, families, other interests they don't participate in as much as they'd like to. They enjoy eating out occasionally with a glass of wine and don't want to obsess about fitness and nutrition. Yet they stand to reap phenomenal benefits from being more physically active, and deep down know they should be doing something.

They want to be healthy, but the industry has unknowingly made this an all or nothing endeavor. Look at what happens every January year after year, the vast majority quit 2-3 months later, many even before the end of the month research shows.

The industry needs to change, and Renu is committed to leading that initiative. Its quite a unique experience.

We Flipped the Model

Like we said there hasn't been anything truly new in the health and fitness world, just different ways to distribute it. Big trend now is at home and virtual workouts; same formula different way to disseminate.

Nutrition and diets same thing. First low carb diet...1860. Yep, that long ago. We've had fitness trends and fads for decades while every year obesity rates tick up. 
 
Renu was created for the 82% of people who aren’t looking to do burpees, wind sprints in parking lots and training for Olympic powerlifting events.

We're not saying those are workouts no one should ever do. However, the vast majority of people are not biomechanically prepared, conditioned or have the joint integrity for those workouts. Physical therapists will happily tell you about the uptick in new business since those workouts have gained in popularity. A moment of trying to get fit and now you have an injury that will be with you possibly the rest of your life. We've had those clients referred to us by their physical therapist after discharge. Secret is, it doesn't take that level of intensity to get in great shape, especially in the beginning.

Renu isn't easy, it's challenging to YOUR level and serves a purpose to shore up your weaknesses and vulnerabilities. We adapt and conform to your body, not your body being forced to accomplish a particular exercise because it's up on the board and everyone else is doing it.


Fitness should be FUN, EMPOWERING and INCLUSIVE.
It should build you up, not tear you down.

BUT... if you stop 60 days in because you’re getting the kitchen sink thrown at you each and every workout or you're getting injured, you stop. Many switch to something much less vigorous- like pay $10 a month to walk on a treadmill and play around half-heartedly with some machines.
 
Renu is the middle road with an incredible background and philosophy. 
 
We are the bridge between the medical world and the fitness world. We believe as the American College of Sports Medicine has stated that Exercise is Medicine. And like medicine, we look at what is the minimum effective dose to cause improvement and do no harm.
 
On day one that will look different compared to month 6. We meet you where you are and as you improve and increase function, capacity and pain free range of motion we adjust to again meet you where you are. We constantly adapt and scale our progressions but always have modifications for your injury history and fitness level. Renu keeps you from physical therapy instead of sending you there with crazy circus, "hey check this out" workouts.

How we do this is with severely limited semi-private sessions developed by an ACSM Exercise Physiologist and Orthopaedic Exercise Specialist with over 25 years' experience including 8 years in a clinical environment. You can’t make those customizations and adjustments in a group of 15-30 people.
 
At renu in comparison we limit sessions to 6 people max. We’ve flipped the model upside down, instead of a race to the bottom charging as little as possible and trying to lock people into contracts hoping and praying they don’t all show up, we do the unthinkable. We cap our membership and want everyone to use it. Yes, everyone talks about community but when you have 200-6000 members that’s a little difficult.

There is a better way

Commercial gyms need 10 times the number of members the facility can handle to be profitable (some 20x). The model is built on you not using it!

Because of the work we do, some people think you can't get a challenging workout at Renu. Nothing could be further from the truth, we're just smart about it and won't give you movements until we see you're ready. After all, if you're injured you can't train. However, when you move better and are stronger, you can actually train harder. That's one of the secrets to our incredible results.

Of course you’ll get the most advanced training techniques that are appropriate for your level to build you up with a purpose and not just put fitness on top of dysfunction as so many do just because it looks like a cool exercise.
